Slow alternate-nostril breathing
Five or six minutes each morning. No forced holds.
Why it happens
A slow, quiet alternate-nostril breath calms the nervous system and is a gentle morning reset. It does not undo the night — but it is low risk, easy to keep up, and it makes you aware of your own nose again.
The steps
- Sit comfortably, spine easy, shoulders down.
- Close the right nostril gently with the thumb. Breathe in slowly through the left.
- Close the left, release the right, and breathe out slowly through the right.
- Breathe in through the right, then close it and breathe out through the left. That is one round.
- Keep it silent and unhurried for five or six minutes. Let the round lengthen slowly over weeks.
Take care.
No forced breath-holding and no strain of any kind. Stop if you feel light-headed. Keep it slow and quiet — if anyone can hear the air, it is too fast.
