AirwayAware — the app and the website
Last updated: 1 October 2026
The short version. AirwayAware has no user account and no login. We do not operate a server that stores your personal data. Your questionnaire answers, your Airway Score, your score history and your settings stay in the app's storage on your own device and are not uploaded to any server we control.
We use no advertising SDKs, no advertising identifiers and no cross-app or cross-website tracking. We do use RevenueCat to manage subscriptions, and RevenueCat receives subscription-related information and provides us with subscription analytics — that is set out in full below. If you email us, we receive whatever you choose to send.
Night recording, oximeter and breathing practice (from version 1.1). These are optional. When you use them, your night recordings, your oximeter readings, your answers and marks, and your breathing practice results are also kept only on your phone. A night report or PDF leaves your phone only if you send it yourself. On iPhone nothing is sent to any clinic. On Android, if you choose to connect the app to your own clinic, some of it goes to that clinic, as set out below.
Who we are
This app is published by Kedar Bakshi ("we", "us"). You can reach us at kedarbakshi@gmail.com.
What stays on your phone
The following is saved in the app's own private storage on your device:
- Your answers to the questionnaire and the scores calculated from them
- Your score history over time
- Which exercises you have marked as practised
- Your chosen language and display settings
- A flag recording whether you hold an active subscription
- A cached copy of the app's articles, videos and answers, so the app works offline
- Your night recordings, if you record a night: how loud the room was, second by second, whether the sound was snoring, and short pieces of the sound itself (30 seconds each) so that you can listen to moments of your own night
- Your oximeter readings, if you connect a Bluetooth pulse oximeter: oxygen saturation (SpO2), pulse and signal strength, during a night recording or a breathing practice
- Your short answers before sleep and in the morning, and the marks you add in the Night Player (for example "me snoring" or "someone else")
- Your breathing practice sessions and their results
- Where you stopped in the lecture, so you can continue from there
AirwayAware does not transmit your questionnaire answers, scores or practice history to us and does not provide its own cloud-sync service for those data. iOS or Apple device-backup features may handle app data as part of a device backup or restore; those services are controlled by Apple, not by us.
The microphone and your oximeter
The app asks for two permissions, and uses each one only for the feature you start:
- Microphone. Used only while a night recording you started is running, until you tap Finish. On iPhone the orange microphone indicator shows for the whole recording. The app does not listen at any other time and never uses the microphone in the background on its own.
- Bluetooth. Used only to connect to your own finger pulse oximeter. The app does not measure oxygen or pulse with the phone's own sensors, and it does not use Bluetooth to find your location.
The microphone may also pick up the sound of anyone sleeping in the same room. Please tell them before you record. The recording stays on your phone.
What leaves your phone
AirwayAware makes network connections for the following purposes:
- Content updates. The app downloads content and media from our content server so that articles, videos and published answers can be kept current without an app update. The app does not intentionally send your questionnaire answers, scores or practice history with these requests. As with ordinary internet requests, the server can receive technical information such as the requesting IP address.
- Subscriptions. If you subscribe or restore a purchase, subscription handling is provided through Apple and RevenueCat, Inc. See the next section.
- If you share a night report. "Share as PDF" makes a report of one night on your phone — the chart of the night, the numbers, what stands out, your answers and your marks — and "Data file" makes a file of the night's numbers. Both open your phone's own share sheet. The file goes only where you choose to send it, for example to your doctor on WhatsApp or by email, and that service then handles it under its own terms. We do not receive a copy. The report does not contain your name unless you add it yourself.
- Android only — if you connect the app to your own clinic. If your clinic gives you a personal link and you open it in the Android app, the app connects to that clinic through Six Figures, the practice software the clinic uses. From then on your screening answers and score and a summary of each breathing practice are shared with your clinic. Once your clinic has accepted you for treatment (or during a trial period your clinic sets), your recorded nights — the numbers and selected pieces of sound — are sent to that clinic's own private storage for your doctor to review. They go only to that clinic, never to the public and never to advertisers, and the files carry no name. Your clinic is responsible for what it holds; ask it at any time to delete it. The iPhone app has no clinic link and sends none of this.
- If you email us. This version of the app has no message form inside it. If you choose to write to us, your own email provider transmits your email address, your message and anything else you decide to include. That is entirely your choice and nothing in the app sends it for you.
Subscriptions, payment, and RevenueCat
Two companies are involved when you subscribe, and it is worth being precise about each.
Apple takes the payment. Your payment card, billing address and Apple Account credentials go to Apple under Apple's own privacy policy. They never reach us and never reach the app.
RevenueCat, Inc. is the third-party service we use to manage subscriptions. The app asks RevenueCat whether your subscription is currently active, and RevenueCat is also what makes "Restore Purchases" work on a new device. Depending on the technical implementation and on what Apple makes available, RevenueCat may process:
- An app-generated identifier used to keep track of subscription access. It is not your name, your email address or your Apple Account.
- Your purchase and subscription status — what was bought, when, whether it renewed, whether it is still active, and whether it was refunded.
- Basic technical information — device type, operating system version, country or region, and the IP address a request came from.
To be clear about analytics. RevenueCat provides us with reporting and analytics about subscriptions and revenue — how many people subscribed, how many renewed, how many cancelled. That is analytics, and we would rather say so plainly than claim we use none. What it is not: it is not advertising, it is not profiling you as an individual, and it is not tracking you across other companies' apps or websites. We do not use it to target you with anything.
We do not send RevenueCat your questionnaire answers, your Airway Score, your score history, your practice history, your night recordings or your oximeter readings.
RevenueCat's privacy policy: revenuecat.com/privacy. Apple's privacy policy: apple.com/legal/privacy.
What we require of anyone we share data with. We use only third parties that we require to protect your information to the same standard this policy sets out, and to use it only for the purpose we engaged them for. Apple and RevenueCat are the only two. Neither is permitted to use your information to build advertising profiles, to sell it, or to track you across other apps or websites. If a provider could not meet that standard, we would not use it.
If you email us
This version of AirwayAware has no message form inside the app. The only way to reach us is to email kedarbakshi@gmail.com, and if you do, we receive whatever you chose to put in that email.
- We use it to reply to you, and for nothing else. We do not add you to a mailing list.
- We may answer a question of general interest by publishing it, edited and with identifying details removed, inside AirwayAware or in our educational material. If you would rather we did not, say so and we will not.
- Please do not email medical records, photographs, scans, test results, addresses, phone numbers, identifying details of other people, or anything else confidential. We do not need them and we would rather not receive them.
- Write to us at the same address if you want us to delete an email you sent, and we will, subject to applicable law and technical limits.
What we do not do
- We do not run a server that stores your personal data. There is no account, no login and no database of ours holding your answers, your scores or your nights. (The one exception is the Android clinic link described above, which you choose, and which sends only to your own clinic.)
- Your sound, oxygen and pulse readings are health information. We never sell them, never use them for advertising and never use them to track you.
- No advertising and no advertising identifiers
- No social media SDKs
- No sale of your data to anyone, for any purpose
- No cross-app or cross-website tracking, and no advertising profiles
- No SDK that records which screens you open, how long you spend, or what you tap
The one analytics of any kind in this app is the subscription reporting RevenueCat gives us, described above. We would rather name it than hide behind a blanket claim of "no analytics".
Sharing your result
The results screen has a Share button, and each recorded night has "Share as PDF" and "Data file". All of them hand the file or text to your phone's own share sheet, and you choose what to do with it. The app does not send it anywhere on its own.
Children
AirwayAware is intended primarily for adults. A person under 18 should use it only with the involvement of a parent or guardian. The app is not directed to children under 13. A parent or guardian may use the app to learn about a child's breathing, but the app is not designed to be handed to a child to use alone.
How long anything is kept
- On your phone. Your answers, your scores, your practice history and your settings stay on the device until you remove them or delete the app. There is no expiry date on them, because there is no server of ours holding a clock over them.
- The sound of your nights. Kept on your phone for 7 days. After that — or sooner if your phone runs short of space — only the sound of the moments worth listening to is kept. The numbers of a night stay until you delete the app.
- Subscription records. Apple and RevenueCat keep a record of the purchase for as long as they need it to run the subscription and to meet their own legal and accounting obligations. We do not set those periods; each company's own policy, linked above, governs them.
- Emails you send us. Kept only as long as we need them to deal with what you wrote about, and deleted on request. We do not keep them to build a profile of anybody.
Your choices and rights
We do not receive your questionnaire answers, your Airway Score, your score history or your practice history, and we do not store them on any server. If you choose to email us, we receive what you sent.
- To remove locally stored app data from this device — delete AirwayAware from the device. Apple-controlled device backups are separate.
- For an email you sent us — write to us at kedarbakshi@gmail.com if you want to request access, correction or deletion of information you sent to us, subject to applicable law and technical limitations.
- For purchase records held by Apple or RevenueCat — contact Apple as appropriate, or write to us and we will help direct you to the relevant process.
- For anything your clinic holds (Android clinic link only) — ask your clinic; it can delete what it holds.
- To withdraw from all of it — delete the app. From that moment nothing further is collected, because everything the app does happens on the device; apart from what you share yourself and, on Android, what you send to your own clinic, the only thing that ever leaves it is a subscription check. Cancelling the subscription in your Apple Account settings ends that too.
Security
Network connections used by the app are protected using HTTPS where supported by the service. Local app data, including your night recordings, is stored within the app's private storage area on your phone, which is separated from other apps by the operating system.
A note on the narration
The spoken narration in some videos may be an AI rendering of Dr. Kedar Bakshi's own voice, created from recordings supplied with his consent. The educational content and final narration are reviewed and approved by Dr. Bakshi. We disclose this because we believe users should know when synthetic voice technology is being used.
The website and web app (airwayaware.app)
The website follows the same rules as the app. There is no account and no login. You can read everything that is free without telling us anything.
- What stays in your browser. If you take the check, practise breathing or use a membership on the web, your answers, your scores, your practice sessions and your member pass are kept in this browser's own storage on your device. They are not sent to us. Clearing this site's data in your browser removes them.
- No tracking. The website has no advertising, no analytics, no tracking and no third-party scripts. We set no cookies. (Cloudflare, which serves the site, may set a short-lived security cookie to keep automated attacks out; it is not used for tracking.)
- Hosting. The website is served by Cloudflare. Like any website, Cloudflare's servers receive technical information such as your IP address and browser type in order to deliver the pages. We do not use it to identify you.
- Videos and audio are streamed from our content storage. Playing them sends nothing about your answers, your scores or your health.
- The oximeter in the browser. Breathing practice on the website can read your own Bluetooth finger pulse oximeter through the browser (Chrome or Edge on Android, Windows or Mac). The browser asks your permission first. The readings stay in this browser. iPhone and iPad browsers do not offer Bluetooth.
- A link from your clinic. If your clinic gave you a personal AirwayAware link (made in Six Figures, the practice software the clinic uses), you can paste it on this website's members page. Our website's server asks your clinic's record only whether that link is still open and not expired, and reads the clinic's name to show you. Nothing is written to your clinic's record from the website, and nothing about your answers or your health is sent anywhere. The link is kept in this browser as a member pass and checked again every day; if your clinic closes the link, the website closes it too. "Sign out of this browser" removes it.
- Your membership on the web (from AirwayAware for iPhone version 1.2). The app sends our website's server the anonymous identifier RevenueCat uses for your subscription. The server asks RevenueCat whether that subscription is active and gives the app a one-time 6-letter code that works for 10 minutes. When you type the code on this website, the server checks again and gives this browser a member pass. The pass holds that anonymous identifier and an end date; it is kept in this browser and checked again every few days. Nothing else is sent — no name, no email, no answers, no scores, nothing about your health. "Sign out of this browser" removes it. The codes are deleted after 10 minutes; we keep no list of members. To stop anyone guessing codes, the server counts tries from each network address for 10 minutes, in a scrambled (hashed) form that does not show the address.
- Not medical advice. As in the app: the website screens and teaches. It does not diagnose, and the night recording is not a sleep study. Keep any treatment your doctor has given you, including CPAP.
Your rights. For any question or request about your data — including under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 — write to kedarbakshi@gmail.com. Because the website holds no account and stores nothing about you on our side, most requests are met by clearing this site's data in your browser. We will help with anything else.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes we will update the date at the top of this page. Material changes will be announced inside the app.
Not medical advice
AirwayAware is an educational and screening tool. It does not diagnose sleep apnoea or any other condition, and it is not a substitute for examination by a qualified clinician. The night recording and its report show what one phone microphone and one consumer pulse oximeter measured; they are not a sleep study. If you are concerned about your breathing or your sleep, see a doctor. If you are already using CPAP or any other prescribed treatment, do not stop or change it because of anything in this app.
